We can see walls everywhere in the world. But The Great Wall of China is the    69    of all. The Chinese call it “The Ten-Thousand-Li Great Wall.” It goes from west to east,    70    mountains, through valleys(山谷) and finally reaches the sea. The Great Wall is more than 6,000 kilometres long, 6~7 metres high and 4~5 metres wide. In some places it is wide enough for five horses or ten men walk side by side along the top.

The Great Wall has a history of over two thousand years. People began to build the wall in the Spring and Autumn Period(春秋时期) in Chinese history. Qin Shihuang let people join up all the walls. He thought these walls could keep the enemy out of the country,    71    the Great Wall came to the world.

When you visit the Great Wall, you can’t wait to know how the Chinese people could build such a great wall thousands of years ago .    72    any modern things, it is really difficult to build it. They have to do all the work by hand. It takes millions of men hundreds of years to build it. And almost none of them can live when they finish it. So we often say the Great Wall is made of millions of    73   .

Today, the Great Wall becomes a place of interest not only to the Chinese people, but also to people all over the world. We Chinese people all feel proud of it.

In America, when people say “man’s best friend”, they don’t mean another person. Instead, they are talking about a lovely animal—a dog! These words show the friendship between people and animals. Dogs and other pets can give joy to people. Some people think of their pets as their children. Some people even leave all their money to their pets when they die.

Animals can help people, too. Dogs can be taught to be the “eyes” for a blind person or “ears” for a deaf person. Scientists have found that pets help people live longer! They make people happier, too. Because of that, they bring animals into hospitals for “visits”.

Americans hold “Be Kind to Animals Week” in the first week of May. Pet shows are held during the week. Even if you don’t live in America, you can do this too. How? First think about how animals make your life richer. If you have a pet, take more time this week to play with it. Remember to give it delicious food.

If you don’t have a pet, be kind to animals around you. For example, if you see a street dog, just leave it alone, or make friends with it. If others around you do bad things to animals, try to stop it. As animals’ best friends, we must protect them.

From a plane you can see the fields, cities, mountains or rivers below. If we go into space, we will see much more of the Earth. People and man-made satellites(人造卫星) are sent up into space to look at the Earth, the stars and other planets to learn more about them.

The moon is our nearest neighbour in space. Men have visited it already. It is smaller than the Earth. Plants can't grow on the moon because there's no air or water on it. The moon hasn't its own light. It shines back the light of the sun. When the sun is shining on the side of the moon that faces us, it looks like a great round ball. We can't see the moon when the sun is shining on the side of the moon that doesn't face us.

In fact, the moon isn't as near as it looks. It is three hundred and eighty thousand kilometres away from the Earth. Of course we can fly to the moon in a spaceship. A spaceship flies very fast, and it flies at about eleven kilometres a second. So it only takes more than three days to get there by spaceship.

We can see the Earth ,_________________________

47. There are some plants on the moon, aren’t there?
